Friendship's Garden

Last year Sandra & I had the enormous pleasure of meeting the two talented ladies from Blackbird Designs, Alma Allen and Barb Adams at a Show & Tell day in town. At the time I had made maybe 3 or 4 blocks from the book Friendship's Garden for my applique workshops. It has taken quite some time bit I'm now working on the 9th and final block and hope to start the sashings soon. It was wonderful to see so many of their beautiful quilts and the stories behind their designs and also the inspiration from their gardens and the fact they live so far apart and yet so in tune is amazing. After book signing and a lovely lunch and afternoon tea we rushed back to the shop and ordered many more of their books and patterns. Some of my students are absolute beginners and it's wonderful to see their skills developing and the beauty of their blocks. I just wish I had the time to make a few more of their quilts. Show and Tell..

Yes we love show and tell, and on Saturday we had an extra special treat when Lisa R brought in her Journey of a Quilter quilt that she made in Leanne's class.  Lisa's quilt using 30's fabrics is just lovely and has been quilted by Melinda from Around the Block quilting.  Lisa had the foresight of booking her quilt in early so that when her class finished in February she wouldn't have long to wait to have her treasure completed. Tales from the Blouse Chest

Well, Peter's response to the sight of the Blouse Chest was interesting to say the least. Colourful would be a better word, however after a brief discussion we have come to an agreement on how he is going to restore it.
More about that later. Yesterday we had a very busy morning putting our shop in order in readiness for the Alexandra Quilters group. It was lovely to welcome them and encouraging to hear they were getting plenty of rain. Hope they had a good tour and a safe trip home. At the end of the day Sandra and I relaxed with a
small (hmm) glass of (dare I say it champagne). It was well earned.
This title could well be a regular chat column, time permitting similar to Tales from the Suitcase.

Rain Glorious Rain

It was lovely to wake up to the sound of rain this morning. We've had a busy week at the shop with classes, social stitching and reps calling in and I've been busy in the photo section of the blog.  I still have heaps of work to to there, more catagories to add and photos to take.  When Lesley and I decided to start a blog we thought what a great way to let everyone know what's going on at the shop.  A lot happens in a term and our newsletter can become outdated quite quickly. We thought once a week will do, well we can see that going out the window. We have heaps of things to write about already. Ohhh the rain is coming down again, how I wish I could just spend the day in my jammies, reading, sewing for the shop, sewing for me, sewing my swap blocks,mmmmmmmm enough day dreaming I need to get the shop we have a large group of ladies from the country coming today......back again soon Sandra

Berwick Day Out

Had a great day out introducing Sandra to the wonders of the Berwick Trash & Treasure. Haven't been for a long time so it was good to relax and enjoy the beautiful weather and browse all the antique tables. We had a Baked Potato each and later shared scones with lashings of cream, and Sandra was going out for afternoon tea ho hum. We bought a (I don't know how to describe it) blouse chest, had seen much better days. Peter will have a fit when he sees it, as he is the one restoring it. So one day you will see it in all it's glory at the shop. We didn't spend too much, Sandra bought a very pretty jacket and I being the "collectible queen" couldn't resist a beaut Royal Doulton jug, pattern Ninden, had never seen one like it. Then it was back down the shop to say "hello" to Michelle Yeo and the girls as they were finishing off their class. They're blocks were stunning, can't wait to see the finished quilts. Just Blogging Along

Our day away from the shop working on our newsletter and other things, coming up with lots of ideas for next term is coming along slowly got sidetracked blogging. Lots to learn here.

Recovering

Hello everyone,

Well slowly but surely we are recovering from our 4 days at the Australasian Quilt Convention AQC.  We had a blast, it was great to see so many familiar faces and also to meet sooo many people.  This is our second year at AQC and it seems to get bigger and better each year.

So now it's back to our normal class routines. We have lots of new fabrics arriving including the new Beatrix Potter range, Mary Rose fabrics, Sanctuary from 3 sisters and Chelsea Boutique from Blackbird Designs.  We still have some stock of the three new ranges that we got in for the show, Paris Cats,Sienna by Marcus Brothers and Northcotts Quest for a Cure Wisteria Lane.
