Off to class...

Ok, don't die of shock. 2 posts in 2 days. LOL.  I'm off to do my class with Michelle Yeo.  Of course I am the remedial student.  I did a class with Michelle about 5 years ago and that's still not finished so things haven't changed.  I only planned to do one block and not the whole quilt and still couldn't manage it. Never mind I am enjoying the class and that's the main thing.  I'm sure the others will have lots of show and tell.

Friday Night.. Recipe

Well, we had a lovely night stitching last night.  I was VERY productive I managed to finish my winding ways swap blocks they just need to be pressed and trimmed.  Actually we were all very productive in between sips of champagne, tea, coffee etc.  Carol kept us entertained with her tales of her recent trip up north and acutally managed a stitch or two.

I was asked for my recipe for the slice that I brought in.  I call this recipe Helen's Chinese Chews.  Helen moved to QLD quite a few years ago but I'm pretty sure that she said it was a recipe that her mum had given her. 

I had left some at home for Graham so when I got home at 11.00pm last night I quickly took a photo before they disappeared into his lunch box today.

Here is the recipe

Mix together 1 cup SR flour, 1 cup Sugar, 1 cup each chopped dates and walnuts, then add 1 dessertspoon melted butter and 2 beaten eggs. Spoon into greased tray 10" x 7". Bake at 180 degrees for 30 minutes. Dust with Icing Sugar, cut into squares or bars whilst warm cool in tray.  Enjoy. Until next time cheers Sandra

 

I've finished Friendship's Garden at last. I put the last stitch in yesterday in time to show the girls at Monday nights class, there was much discussion on quilting, binding, backing and again today with Sandra. We decided to be guided by the expert quilter, Kelly who is coming in Thursday to discuss quilting designs with me. It's been a long time in the making but I'm pretty happy with the end result. I've loved seeing all the other quilts coming together, so many different colour combinations. Nikki one of my younger girls has her own blog site www.littleneedlecase.blogspot.com check out where she is up to with her blocks, I'm told she makes a mean cup cake as well (don't forget Friday night Nikki). I'm Back...

Hello everyone, well I've been back for a while and back into the swing of things, doesn't take long for a holiday to become a distant memory. I had a restful if uneventful holiday. I was just winding down when it was time to come home, but Merimbula was lovely as usual, the first 3 days the weather was cool but the sun was shining, and then the weather changed with heaps of rain and quite cold. I had my sewing machine at the front door ready to load in the car, hubby says "you're not taking that are you?" Of course I am, with that he promtply pulled out one of his power tools and packed it in the car. Weird!!! Well, of course we didn,t get to use them, instead we had a great time playing with our darling little grandchild, the Bold and the Beautiful as I refer to her. She kept us thoroughly entertained. This last week at the shop I've been kept busy with the events of the week whilst I was on holiday. Sandra had a list a mile long that we're still going through. I missed out on a visit from Marg of Missy Moos Crafts who was looking for some more Chelsea Boutique fabric to complete a shop project, I think she went away happy we could help her out. On Thursday we had the lovely fabric from Crabapple Hill arrive. We ordered the whole range (and miracles) it all came. It's always exciting opening parcels, we see so much fabric when the reps call, it's always "did we order that?" we must have. Anyway this range has some lovely pink, green, and cream florals, stripes to match and other little prints can't remember them all, you'll just have to come in and see for yourselves. I'm already thinking doll's dresses with the florals and the stripes for upcoming classes. Next week I'm looking forward to catching up with Thursday Threads girls it's always a great few hours, and looking at more fabric on Friday. Well, now I'm looking forward to some soup, walking around Emerald Lake this morning has given me an appetite. Till next time. Lesley

Friday Night.....

Another lovely evening last Friday at social stitching, lots of laughter, good company, yummy food and some great show and tell.

Robyn's stunning clam shell quilt, hand pieced and hand quilted.  This quilt started off with a charm pack and then grew! Sound familiar?

Ramona's quilt for her niece Julia, hearts stitched in variegated thread and hand quilted in perle thread.  A very pretty quilt unfortunately my photography doesn't do it justice.

I managed a little more applique on my block for Margie's Quilts of Hope hopefully I will have it for show and tell at our next Friday social stitiching night.

What a lovely day.....

I had a lovely start to the week on Monday at the Warragul PatchworkersQuilt In.  It was lovely to catch up with some old friends and also to say hi to Natalie from Candleberry Country and the girls from Gippstitch who had their shops there. I started stitching my block for the Margie's Quilts of Hope Quest for a Cure challenge. I had an idea what I wanted to do for my block this year.  I thought I would use a block from my Garden Sampler which I designed a few years ago.

so with a few modifications this is what I came up with

and now I am all set to go ready for stitching   

   

                                                                                 

I must admit that in between lots of talking, eating, browsing, viewing quilts, show and tell and a guest speaker I didn't get a lot done but I did manage to applique my butterfly wings.

We're off

Well not quite. Lesley is off to Merimbula for a week or so break, I'm sure she will have a lovely time.  I'm off just for the day to the Warragul Quilt In.  I have been attending this Quilt In for a number of years and have always had a fantastic time.  I missed the last one 2  years ago so I am really really looking forward to today.  Of course that meant I needed some hand work to do.,.. mmmm I could work on my swap blocks, hand quilting the borders on our bed quilt no I'd better make a start on my block for Margie's Quilts of Hope which is due at the end of July.  I spent Sunday designing and preparing my block for applique and am pleased with the result more on that later.  I'm off to get mum settled for the day and then I'll be on my way.  Back soon...
