Three posts in three days.............

this is a record for us, we have so much to catch up on.  Last Friday saw a group of us making QAYG blocks for the Victorian Bushfire Victims.  We had a great productive day and are planning another in the near future.  I have uploaded photos in the QAYG album.  Friday night saw Amelia going to her school Formal, my little girl is "all growed up" where did all the years go? She made her own dress, I am very proud of her.

Last month Lesley and I were fortunate to spend a day with Kaye England.  She is a very inspiring designer.  We have the full range of her Back Home Again fabrics and have made a sample of her quilt using the range.  This quilt was very popular at AQC.  I will try to remember to upload a photo tomorrow in the meantime there is an album of the quilts Kaye had with her.  We were especially taken with the quilts made from her new Christmas range featuring antique postcards.  We can’t wait for those fabrics to arrive.

New Fabrics

  I tried to upload some photos of our new fabrics a few days ago, they went into Photo Albums instead, it's a while since I have posted photos so hopefully I'll get it right this time. What do you think.....

A long long time ago someone said to me, every home needs a computer and a grandmother.  A computer because that is the future and a grandmother to teach us skills that may otherwise be lost.   Now that I am a grandmother I would like to change that to every home needs a computer and a teenager.  This morning my laptop decided to have a hissy fit.  Thank goodness for Amelia who calmly unplugged one of the lead to the router flicked a switch turned it all back on and voila eveythings working again. 

We are having a sewing day today to make QAYG block for the Bushfire Victims.  I had planned on doing a post with a tutorial with a couple of blocks I made late last night.  Now I am running out of time before going to the shop.  (I need to find out how I can load photos from my camera to the computer at the shop) 

            

For a more complete tutorial please see Jan Mac’s blog entry for February 10, but in the meantime if you would like to make some blocks to add to ours to send to Jan for putting together just follow the following steps

 

1. Cut backing square 11inches lay wrong side up
2. Cover with a piece of wadding 10 ½ inches square
3. Lay a strip of fabric right side up diagonally down the centre of the square
4. Lay second strip right sides together then sew through all layers a new needle and a walking foot (or dual feed if your machine has it) makes this step easy
5. Press open and continue to lay and sew strips until the square is covered
6. Press then trim block to 10 ½ inches (I do this from the wrong side up so if there is any movement I can trim accordingly

Very long post..................

First of all, thank you to all who phoned sent emails, texts and were concerned for our well being during the recent bushfire period.  It’s hard to believe that 3 weeks ago we were in the midst of it all.

We’ve slowly been getting the shop back in order after AQC.  It has been difficult to get motivated, especially on the days that we were quiet when people were advised not to travel in bushfire risk areas.  Classes are now back to normal and cancelled classes have been rescheduled.  I have uploaded some photos of blocks that the girls in sampler and applique classes are working on

We are still collecting quilts from Waverley members to pass on to them to distribute.  We are also collecting quilts on behalf of Marg Campion who is working with Father Vince in Alexandra, these quilts will go to the Marysville area.  Corrie and Jan in Warrandyte are collecting fat quarters for quilters who lost their stash in the fires.  They are putting together bundles of fabric thread and needles to help start a new stash.  They are collecting until September 2009. Fat quarters can be dropped off at the shop to be passed on or you can mail contributions to PO Box 293 Warrandyte 3113.  If you know someone who has lost their stash you can email Corrie [email protected] and register their details.

We’ve had 3 deliveries of fabrics in the last few weeks.  Mid West Modern by Amy Butler, Aviary from 3 sisters and the full range of the red colour way of Old Glory IV and well as some blue and brown bolts from that range as well Nancy Halvorsens latest Christmas range and City Girl Holiday from Kitty Yoshida as you can see a wide variety we are sure there will be something to please everyone

 

 

We are back

Yes, we are back from the Australasian Quilt Convention we survived just. It was a few hectic days leading up to it.  We were packing for the show when a bushfire started not too far away.  We decided to evacuate the shop as all the shops were closing in our strip, the kiddies were being picked up from school and the smoke was not far away.  Sandra went home with her daughter to pack a few things collect pets and get away from the area, as roads were closing.  I went home to Emerald trying not to look at the smoke billowing away to my right.  It's easy to see how accidents happen in times of stress.  We almost lost the Emerald Service Station. A lady was filling jerry cans and something to do with static electricity started a fire.  She was air-lifted to hospital with severe burns, I believe she is okay thankfully.

Well we eventually got to the Exhibition after a very late Tuesday night. The Show went well considering a few inconviences, the heat the first 2 days didn't help, swollen feet, heat rashes, cold sores well it wasn't too bad.  Our Christmas table went well with Faerie Noelle a big hit.  It was great to say "hello" to lots of friends of the shop.  A big "Thank You" to the girls who supplied us with much needed refreshments.

Now we are having a much needed rest over the long weekend, so  please bear with us as we are still unpacking and putting the shop back in order, and following up with customer requests.
